Daily Affirmations Work
I started doing Daily Affirmations, what are they? Affirmations are positive statements you think or say out loud or write down or in whatever medium you may use, daily.
It felt corny and I was skeptical at first but I’ve noticed a difference in my mood, thoughts and confidence, especially someone like me where I have so much negative thoughts and negative self-talk.
I started because of The Little Shaman who I follow on instagram, someone I believe is a self-actualised person. She gave affirmations to repeat daily, she said to say it yourself and really believe it so I gave it a try.
I started saying one daily throughout the day, in my thoughts, out loud and I write it down in the morning, easy one’s that I can remember to say often. I’m a busy mum and there’s a lot going on in my brain throughout the day and night, plus I forget a lot.
Affirmations such as, I am capable, I am resilient I got from The Little Shaman. Easy to say, easy to remember. It started to affect my thoughts positively, whenever I have negative thoughts (which is often) I can easily spiral and catastrophize on absolutely nothing that is actually happening and I remunerate a lot too. I revisit the affirmations telling myself I am capable, I am resilient and it counteracts the negative thoughts with positive ones and starts to stave off the negative feelings that start happening which lowers my confidence.
Everyday I write an affirmation down, whatever is affecting me or I’m feeling in the moment, such as I release Shame, everything I want is on the other side of Fear etc..
It affects the neurons in the brain (information messengers) which are information roads, some are motorways in your brain that are big, well laid and have been there for a long time & familiar and some are rickety dirt roads that you’ve just started driving down but need to drive down to get to your BJJ class that you just started because you are trying to get out of your comfort zone! The roads/thoughts affect your actions, decision making, mood, confidence, emotions, physical health, mental health and everything else in the body.
You can always create new neural pathways with your thoughts, the brain is always trying to expound the least amount of energy so it likes a familiar hell then the unknown good. This is why it’s important to get out of your familiarity and comfort zones and try new experiences, especially when you get older and you can get ‘set in your ways’ and patterns.
You control what you feed your brain, positive thoughts and affirmations for your brain wiring, you’re not out of control even though a lot of the times we feel we are.
Studies have shown that elderly people that perceive their health as excellent are more likely to live longer – 1991 department of sociology and institute for health – Rutgers university.
Beliefs, mindsets, affirms can dramatically impact physical health. It starts internally, childhood trauma & programming from parents and carers we internalize which becomes our thinking and beliefs and how we see ourselves.
I watched the Paris 2024 Olympics and heard the athletes talk about visualization, visualizing themselves winning and becoming the Olympic champion before they did, in the gymnastics the USA team were saying affirmations to themselves out loud before they started.
Try it for a month see how you feel after a month. It’s also good to teach your young children and teenagers to do it and to speak positively to themselves and about themselves, compassionately and loving the way they do to others. Consistency works, one affirmation a day, one page a day, one brick a day and you look up and you’ve built a wall.
Start talking to yourself like someone you Love X
